TOYOTA CAMRY HYBRID IS GREEN CAR OF THE YEAR

Australian-built Toyota Camry Hybrid has been named the country’s Best Green Car with judges praising its performance, affordability and resale value as well as its fuel economy. The petrol-electric Camry, available in value-packed H and up-market HL versions, received the recognition in the 2014 carsales.com.au Car of the Year awards.

Judges referred to the model’s refinement and low fuel consumption of just 5.2 litres/100km* along with its ability to “accelerate with aplomb”.

“Combining ‘green’ power and legendary Toyota reliability, the Camry Hybrid is a unique blend of capable sedan accommodation and affordable hybrid technology,” they said.

“Camry Hybrid’s retained value is higher than most conventional counterparts, providing buyers of this alternative-power mid-size sedan with both peace of mind and a clear environmental conscience.”

Toyota Australia’s executive director sales and marketing Tony Cramb said the attributes cited by the award judges reinforced the car’s strong selling points.

“Many people purchase hybrids because of their excellent fuel economy, but this award confirms that efficiency is only part of the attraction,” Mr Cramb said.

“Camry Hybrid at 151kW has more power than the petrol-only versions, which translates into brisk performance and an engaging drive experience,” he said.

“It is also affordable, great value for money and it retains high residual values – all of which are important to the pockets of our customers.”

The winning Toyota is Australia’s best-selling hybrid vehicle with almost 29,000 sold since the first version was launched in 2010. The second-generation model was launched in 2012.

Camry Hybrid accounts for more than half of all Toyota hybrids sold in this country, even ahead of the legendary Prius hatch, which is the world’s best-selling hybrid car.

Globally, the Toyota Group has sold more than seven million hybrid vehicles, of which almost 70,000 have been sold in Australia.
